Product Description
Happy with your Pastry Brush but unhappy with how it retains odors and clumps when you clean it? Try the OXO Good Grips Silicone Pastry Brush, which works like a natural bristle brush but with the added conveniences of heat resistance, odor resistance and cleanability. Multiple layers of silicone bristles tackle all tasks. Gaps in the center bristles hold liquid as you transfer from bowl to pastry surface, and tapered outer bristles let you brush delicate pastry with ease. The silicone bristles are heat resistant to 600??F so you can spread butter in a hot pan, and the angled Brush head keeps bristles off the countertop. Cleanup is easy in the dishwasher, and these bristles won't clump, frizz or retain odors. Dishwasher-safe.

5 out of 5 stars Works well   August 31, 2010
Mrs. J (La Mesa, CA)
These were either top rated by America's Test Kitchen or Cooks Illustrated, so I thought I'd upgrade my old pastry brush when the bristles started falling out. This works great. I really like the fact that it is silicone so it feels like it can be cleaned better (I don't have a dishwasher which gets the water so hot, probably the old kind would have been cleaned well too). I'm not a basting expert, just a new cook, but this gets the job done, cleans up well, and appears to be made of good quality materials. Definitely a keeper.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent pastry brush   August 31, 2010
Roderic Rinehart (Heart of Rural Indiana)
This was exactly what I wanted. Quality build, good bristles, silicone for easy cleaning and no lingering smells or colors, and a very good price.

We immediately threw away the horse-hair looking nasty brushes we had been using. So glad to switch to inert silicone.

5 out of 5 stars VERY HAPPY WITH THIS BRUSH.   July 31, 2010

I will be the first to admit that I like OXO products and have quite a number of them around. I have yet to be disappointed in any of them. I will also be the first to admit that I do not like change all that much and have fought the good fight in trying to keep my old bristle brushes I have been so fond of. Well I finally broke down and bought one of these things for pastry.

Now I have been using a silicone brush on our outside gas grill and must admit to liking it. Why I did not want to use it on indoor cooking I do not know. Anyway....

This is an excellent brush. As the OXO company tells you, the way these things are designed it holds the liquid longer on the brush than other brands. This particular brush feels perfect in the hand and has a very nice balance to it. Since I do all the dishwashing in our family, I like something that I can stick into the dishwasher and not have to worry about it. This brush cleans up very nice.

I have used this for about a year now. In using the natural bristle brushes I would go through several in a year's time as they washed poorly, retained odors, lost bristles and were constantly clumping up. No problems with this brush in any of those areas. I figure I am getting a better job done and saving money at the same time.

Love this brush. The price here is about two dollars less expensive that what I paid for it at a local retail story.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible   June 25, 2010
John L.T. (Castro Valley, CA USA)
One of the most important additions to cooking in decades, this silicone brush is suitable for broiling as well as pastry. Suitable is actually an understatement because this brush will change the effectiveness of your basting for all time. Whatever your favorite sauce, whatever consistency, this will do a fantastic application for whatever cut of meat, poultry, or fish being prepared. Fantastic is also an understatement because this brush goes beyond any expectations you might have and will touch the very soul of any chef. Words simply fail to describe how beautifully incredible this utensil is and what a breakthrough it is for any kitchen or patio. Affordable and brilliantly engineered and designed, it is highly recommended for anyone who wants to baste as never before, beyond their wildest dreams, and as never could ever be imagined. In fact, it is not recommended because it is an absolute must, something essential, a brush so vital to your cooking experience that there is no alternative to purchasing it, even if it was ten times the price. Oxo has developed an absolutely groundbreaking brush and deserves all the accolades it has accumulated on this page and all over the media. Within the industry, Oxo is a giant, a leader in innovation, and a master of kitchen utensils. One can be sure in the case of the Oxo Good Grips Silicone Pastry Brush, Oxo has demonstrated there is no limit to what it can achieve on behalf of the American cook. Their line of products are much more than kitchen aids. They are life changing acts of genius that fulfill the most extravagant wishes of every cook and transforms each of us into culinary magicians.

2 out of 5 stars Not a great brush for baking/pastry applications   May 26, 2010
Jenny Baking Diva (Vancouver, BC Canada)

I mostly use pastry brushes for just that: brushing melted butter over pastry specifically filo. I was really getting sick of the bristles shedding from my traditional bristle brush and was hoping that this brush would help. Well it does accomplish that: there is no shedding whatsoever. However, it is not as gentle as a bristle brush and pulls and tears the filo. It also doesn't spread the butter on the pastry nicely, more like uneven streaks. It seems to hold a fair amount of butter but the amount that actually gets deposited on the brushing surface is small. It is easy to clean though, so I'll give it a point for that.

So if you're buying this to use for actual baking/pastry applications, I'd say this is not a good brush for you. However if you're using it for brushing melted butter on a pan, waffle iron, etc. then this brush would be fine for the job.
