Product Description Eliminate the guesswork about what's lurking in your fridge with these convenient glass storage units by Pyrex. It's a scientific fact that leftovers are far less likely to be eaten if they languish hidden. By the time someone decides to take a peek, well, let's just say it can be unnerving. Glass gives you the advantage of being able to store and reheat in the same container, and it doesn't discolor or retain odors the way plastic containers can. With many sizes to choose from you'll be able to store not only leftovers but also pre-prepared meals.
Amazon.com Review Keep your leftovers chilled or frozen in these durable glass containers with plastic lids. The clear glass lets you see at a glance what's inside, and the stackability factor helps you neatly store dried pasta, cereal, and other items on your shelf. When you're ready to reheat those leftovers, bring to room temperature then warm in the oven or microwave. Pyrex glass is nonporous, so it won't stain or absorb food odors. And, unlike plastic containers, glass won't emit harmful chemicals during microwave use. This 14-piece storage set consists of seven round glass bowls: one large seven-cup; two medium-size four-cup; and four handy two-cup (great for lunches). Each has its own seal-tight, blue plastic lid. Incredibly durable as long as sudden changes in temperature are avoided, Pyrex glassware is safe for the oven, microwave, freezer, refrigerator, and dishwasher, and even looks good serving at the table. Please avoid using the lids in the microwave and oven, and wash by hand or on the dishwasher's top rack. Pyrex covers the glass bowls with a two-year warranty, and the lids with a one-year warranty. Pyrex glass is made in the USA. --Ann Bieri

Very useful, sturdy, great value! September 3, 2010 Felicia Wong I've been wanting to switch to glass storage containers because I was sick of the discoloration and odor-retention associated with the cheap plastic types. I'm glad I looked on Amazon, because the price and value of this set is unrivaled by brick-and-mortar retailers.
The bowls are sturdy - as expected of Pyrex, and I've used them for food preparation, food storage, and even used the mid-sized ones as bowls for piping hot Ramen!
I'm not sure if it's meant to be that way, but the lids I received were all assorted: i.e.: different types of markings on the different lids, even amongst those of the same size. Since the lids all fit, I didn't see any need to investigate or to return them. Oh, when I received them from Amazon, the bowls were terribly dusty inside the box. Not a deal-breaker, but quite unpleasant to be pulling out filthy bowls that were supposedly brand new. I'm glad I didn't order these as a gift.
One slight downside is that the lids don't go on as easily as typical Glad/Tupperware type lids. That said, after they've been pressed onto the glass container, they close securely, and even make a nice vacuum seal if you push on the lid and get the air out.
I am very pleased with this purchase, especially since the variety of bowl sizes are very functional. Would definitely recommend!
Good bowls, but rims chip & break easily August 11, 2010 strix275 PROS: Overall I am happy with these bowls. The round plastic lids seal very well. They are snug, but not exactly water tight. Being made of tempered glass, the bowls can be used in the microwave, oven, fridge and freezer. They are heavier than thin plastic containers for taking food to work, but you avoid most of the plastic leeching that happens with those containers. The lids can leech plastic if left on loose during reheating due to the condensation that collects on them. Except for the rim (see "CONS" below), these are fairly durable bowls.
CONS: The major down side to these are the glass rims. They are the weak spot and can easily chip or break. STACKING these bowls with out their lids on is NOT advised. This is especially true for the smaller "2-cup" size bowls. Due to the crystalline nature of glass and very little tapered angle (the sides are almost vertical), pulling 2 bowls apart can shear off pieces of glass from the rim of the bottom bowl. You may not be aware of this when it happens and there is a danger that small shards of glass may be left inside a bowl. Those of you with children should be aware if this point.
When using a dishwasher, you must be careful to NOT allow the rim of one bowl to come in contact with another dish. Otherwise the water pressure may rock the bowl back and forth resulting in impact damage and chips to the rim. I suggest trying to move or wiggle the bowls by hand to check the range of motion while resting on your dishwasher's rack. With a little experimentation, you can find the right spots to load these bowls safely. This is mostly a problem when the bowls are at an angle. The best way to load them seems to be securely on their side. Just be sure they cannot move around and are not tipped back (which will trap water and soap).
Pyrex appears to change their manufacturing frequently, which one assumes is to improve the product. The color of their glassware has a darker blue-green tint than they did a few years back. The rim (lip) of their dishes have a more rounded edge than before. However, the issues I describe above are still present. It should be noted that the rim weakness usually only results in small chips and I have not yet had a "fault line" or deep crack start in one with normal use. With over 2 dozen of the 2-cup size bowls I have only had one casualty when it was dropped from about waist height onto a very hard floor.
Nice glass storage -- DON'T nest same-size bowls together July 23, 2010 SB_mom 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently ordered these, and am generally pleased with them. However, the box description claims that these bowls nest, but do that at your own risk. I nested two of the 2-cup size together, they got wedged, I tried gently to get them apart and some shards of glass chipped off the lip of one of them even with just gentle pressure.
Pyrex customer service was extremely helpful and shipped out two replacement bowls right away. The rep said that they recommend stacking with the lids on (of course, the word "nest" on their box implies that you don't need to do this), which is what I'll do from now on.
So, I still recommend the product, just don't try to nest bowls of the same size together.
Happy With Pyrex! July 8, 2010 T. Gore (Nashville, TN United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love Pyrex everything! We are trying to get away from the use of so much plastic and disposables, so I purchased this set for home storage and for carrying our lunch to work. These are great! The lids seal tightly and we've had no leaks. I would advise against stacking these together though: I did have two get stuck and one of them chipped slightly getting them apart. I store them with the lids on to prevent this from happening again. I also love that these are American Made! I will be purchasing more sets of these.
Solid construction....happy i bought June 18, 2010 Andrew Franklin Pyrex is absolutely great. I got these on super sale.....but I would have definitely paid more. The lids seal very tight and will even hold in liquids which is great. Have gone through the dishwasher a few times now and there is no apparent wear at all. Love em and will be buying more in the future.
